Rory Paul Laughna, of Westwood, MA died peacefully in Boston, surrounded by his family, on June 13, 2022, at age 67.

Rory was born on January 17, 1955, in Toledo, OH, the son of Hugh J. Laughna, Sr., and Marie Baron Laughna. In 1973, he graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School, where he was an outstanding student, class president, and competed on the football, wrestling, and track teams. He graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1977, with a degree in economics. At Dartmouth Rory played football and was president of the Dartmouth Rugby Club. He was a much-loved member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity, the Casque & Gauntlet Senior Society, and Aquinas House, the Catholic Student Center.

After graduation from college he attended the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and obtained a master's degree in business administration. Most importantly, in Ann Arbor he met an undergraduate, Martha Redding, who would become the love of his life. They were married in Winnetka, Illinois, in 1980, and moved to Pittsburgh, where Rory began a long and successful career in finance, first with Mellon Bank in commercial lending and project finance. Rory and Martha later moved their family to Westwood, Massachusetts, when Rory joined BTM Capital Management in Boston, and where he rose to President. He retired from BTM in 2012. Upon retirement from BTM, he joined college friends in the founding and management of True North Ales in Ipswich, MA, retiring in 2021.

Rory served as a Eucharistic Minister and finance committee member for St. Margaret Mary Parish in Westwood. He had a deep faith that was an inspiration to his family and friends. Rory also served on Town of Westwood boards on transportation and personnel. He was a member of the board of directors of Family of Friends, Inc., an organization in Sanford, FLA providing residents a safe place to live their life independently while still continuing to receive the care needed, founded by his father Hugh.

Throughout his life, Rory was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchild were his special delight, and he relished his role as their mentor, biggest fan, and steadfast friend. He was a man of great humor and keen intellect, known for a mischievous twinkle in his eye and knowing grin.

Rory is survived by his wife Martha, their four children and his granddaughter, all of whom he loved so well: Ryan and his wife Goldie and granddaughter Remy, of Plano, Texas; Andrew of Detroit, Michigan; and Mary and Sara of Boston.

Rory is also survived by his sister Shauna Laughna of Casselberry, Florida, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Hugh J. Laughna, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood, MA on Sunday, June 19th from 2-5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning June 20th at 10am also at St. Margaret Mary Church, Westwood. Interment private.
